Women's Soccer Falls to CSM in GPAC Opener

Alexa Johnson nets her seventh goal of the season

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – The Northwestern College women's soccer team (4-3-0, 0-1-0 GPAC) fell to the Flames of the College of Saint Mary (5-1-1, 2-0-0 GPAC) in their Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) opener Wednesday night at the NWC Soccer Complex.
 
The College of Saint Mary struck first few minutes of the contest thanks to a Marissa Ring goal with the assist from Aubrey Vancura. Later in the first half, it would be Vancura finding the back of the net with the find from Ring, giving the Flames a 2-0 lead at the halftime break.
 
In the 55th minute, freshman Alexa Johnson (Spencer, Iowa) netted her seventh goal of the season for the lone Raider goal of the match. Katie Jacob (Sr., Zimmerman, Minn.) picked up her first assist of the season.
 
MATCH NOTES:
  • Alexa Johnson added to her team-high goals mark with her seventh tonight.
  • She's now two goals from breaking into the top-10 in program history for most goals scored in a season.
  • The Raiders put up five shots in the match, with three of them being on-goal.
  • Kaelin Alons picked up six saves in the contest.
 
Up Next: The Raiders will hit the road to start a three-match road swing, heading for Sioux City on Saturday, September 17 for a GPAC clash with the Chargers of Briar Cliff University with kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
