SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The No. 8-ranked Northwestern College volleyball team (5-1, 1-0 GPAC) won their Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC)-opener in a convincing straight sets victory over the Morningside Mustangs (1-7, 0-1 GPAC), highlighted by a phenomenal performance by the Raider outside hitters.

"This is one of our better matches we've played this season," noted head coach Kyle Van Den Bosch. "We played clean straight from the start."

A hot attack right out of the gate in Sioux City gave the Red Raiders the advantage they would need to cruise through the first set against the Mustangs of Morningside. Using a 5-0 run early, the Raiders held an 8-2 advantage and never looked back. Hitting a stout .364 as a team in the opening set to Morningside's -.069 proved to be the major difference in the 25-10 first set victory.

The dominance continued in the second set as the Mustangs continued to string any attacks together against a stout Raider defense. Meanwhile, Northwestern was even hotter on the attack in the second set with a team hitting percentage of .484 (16 kills, 31 attempts). Northwestern used a 9-3 run in the set to pull away, leading 17-7. The Raiders would score four-straight points to take the set 25-13.

"We've been working hard in the back and we did a good job tonight, noted Van Den Bosch. "We played efficient the whole night and were able to get the ball to our hitters well."

The Mustangs ran out of juice in the final set, as Northwestern jumped out to a quick 7-2 advantage to put away the home team. Jadeyn Schutt (Sr., Orange City, Iowa) tallied all of her match-high three service aces to help the Red Raiders take the match in straight sets, winning set three 25-16.

"I thought all the hitters were really elite tonight! It was a good conference road win," concluded Van Den Bosch. "We have four really good teams coming up this weekend back her in Sioux City."
