Football Announces 2022 Team Captains

Raiders vote eight captains on this year's squad

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – Head Coach Matt McCarty and the Northwestern College football team have announced their team captains for the 2022 season. Team captains are voted on annually by the all the football student-athletes on the roster.

The captain group is split evenly among offense and defense, both having four each. On the offensive side of the ball quarterback Blake Fryar (Jr., Waukee, Iowa), wide receiver Cade Moser (Sr., Rock Valley, Iowa), tight end Blake Anderson (Sr., Oakland, Neb.), and offensive Lineman Jack Johnson (Sr., Blue Springs, Mo.) will represent the Red Raiders.

Defensively, safety Noah Van't Hof (Sr., Lester, Iowa), linebackers Parker Fryar (So., Waukee, Iowa) and Tanner Oleson (Sr., Larchwood, Iowa), and defensive lineman Tyler Jones (Sr., Twin Lakes, Iowa) were voted team captains by their teammates.

Fryar, a native of Waukee, Iowa, will enter the seaosn as the Raiders starter for the second straight season. He started the first seven games for Northwestern in 2021 and led the team with 2,172 passing yards and 25 touchdown passes. He completed nearly 65 percent of his passes and was named an Honorable Mention All-Conference performer.

Moser, returning for his super-senior year, is a native of Rock Valley, Iowa and continues to climb on the NWC receiving all-time lists. He sat second in the NAIA last season with his 21 touchdown receptions, racking in a whopping 1,504 receiving yards in his 81 receptions. Moser sits second in receiving touchdowns (38), pass receptions (186), and receiving yards (3,381) in his Red Raider career. The senior was named an First Team All-American by the Associated Press (AP), and a Second Team All-American by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA).

Anderson, a senior tight end from Oakland, Neb., made a name for himself in 2021. He sat third on the team in receptions (38) and receiving yards (504). He was named a 2021 Honorable Mention All-Conference performer.

Johnson, a senior from Blue Springs, Mo., will lead the Raider offensive line this season after being voted a team captain. He was a steady constant on the offensive line that propelled the high-powered offense to break numerous offensive records a season ago. His efforts led to him earning First Team All-Conference accolades.

Van't Hof, another Raider using his super-senior year, hails from Lester, Iowa and is following up a 2021 campaign that landed him Second Team All-American honors from the AP, NAIA, and the AFCA. He was second on the team in tackles with 78, picking off one pass and had four pass break-ups for the Red Raiders last season.

Fryar, the lone 'underclassmen' (third year at NWC) tabbed a team captain, had a tremendous 2021 campaign. He led the team with 109 tackles, as less than five Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) athletes had 100+ tackles on the season. He also notched five tackles for loss and one sack, while hurrying the quarterback three times. His defensive efforts earned him NAIA Honorable Mention All-American accolades.

Joining Fryar as a linebacker in the team captain group is Oleson, a native of Larchwood, Iowa. Oleson was also a force to be reckoned with in the opponent's backfield, recording seven tackles for loss and two and a half sacks for the Red Raiders in 2021. He also had four interceptions and three pass break-ups.

Wrapping up the team captain group is Jones, a defensive lineman from Twin Lakes, Iowa. Another force on the Red Raider front seven, he recorded 28 tackles, five tackles for loss, and two sacks a season ago.
