Raiders Snag Four Top-Five Finishes at Concordia Twilight

Gilbert and Jones take home first-place finishes

SEWARD, Neb. – Northwestern College jumpers from the men's and women's track and field teams got one more chance yesterday, Friday, May 13 at the Concordia (Neb.) Twilight. The Raiders took home two first-place finishes.

James Gilbert Jr. (Jr., Orlando, Fla.) notched a first-place leap in the Long Jump, leaping .3+ meters longer than his GPAC gold medal performance a week ago. He recorded a jump of 7.34m, which is his best mark of the season. As of Saturday morning, the mark is good for sixth-place in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), heading into the Outdoor Championships later this month.

Following suit like the GPAC Championships, Lorenzo Jones (So., Orlando, Fla.) once again took home first-place in Triple Jump with a jump of 14.86m on the campus of Concordia University (Neb.). His longest leap of the year is still his 15.05m (49-04.50) leap at the Drake Relays, which sits second in the NAIA behind Cumberland (Tenn.) athlete Sibanda Dumoluhle's leap of 15.35m.

On the women's side, Jacie Vander Waal (Fr., Sioux Center, Iowa) finished tied for second-place in the women's high jump with a leap of 1.59m. Teammate Aaron Shepard (Jr., Marengo, Ill.), on the men's side, finished fifth in the event

Up Next: Qualified individuals set to prepare for the 2022 NAIA Outdoor Championships set for May 25-27 in Gulf Shores, Ala. at Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium. Official qualifiers will be announced by the NAIA in the coming days.
