ORANGE CITY, Iowa -- The Northwestern College men's golf team shined at the Siouxland Spring Invite on Saturday on the home course of Landsmeer Golf Club in Orange City as the Raiders posted a top-10 team round score.
The Northwestern varsity men posted a season-low team score of 281 on Saturday, leading them to a tied for second-place finish in the one-round event amongst a field full of Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) teams.
The team score sits tied for seventh in program history, tying the 2017 Siouxland Invite (Landsmeer) mark of 281 (-3) set by Evan Schuler, Justin Kraft,
Austin Reitz, and
Jake Olsen.
"I'm so proud of the way our men have embraced the tough weather we've encountered this spring; and today was no different," said head coach
Aaron Alberson. "They came into today knowing we were going to face less than ideal conditions but they handled it really well. I love the way we are trending heading into the GPAC Championships!"
The Raiders were led by the round of
Trenton De Haan (Jr., Orange City, Iowa/MOC-Floyd Valley), who returned to the clubhouse with the score of 68 (-3), which landed him a tied for third-place finish. The round is tied for his career-low he set back on September 14, also at Landsmeer.
"Trent's round was more of a grind than it may have looked from his scorecard but that's a testament to his willingness to fight when he doesn't have his best," says Aberson. "That's the best compliment a golf coach can give a player!"
De Haan was accompanied by the rounds of
Brock Murphy (Jr., Tea, S.D./Tea) and
Kyle Christy (So., Orange City, Iowa/MOC-Floyd Valley) who signed the scores of 69 (-2), providing them both with a tied for sixth-place finish. Another Raider to shoot under par was
Ezra Meyer (Jr., Spencer, Iowa/Spencer), who finished with the score of 70 (-1).
The Raider JV squad also saw some stellar play, completing the round with a team score of 289, which secured them a fourth-place finish amongst the field.
Morningside University snagged the team title in the one-round event with a team score of 272 (-12). Iowa Western's Thomas Craig took home the individual title with an outstanding round of 65 (-6).
