Northwestern's Comeback Bid Falls Short in Overtime

Carlson and Geddes each finish with 25 points

SIOUX CENTER, Iowa  – Northwestern (7-4, 2-3 GPAC) erased a 15-point first half deficit to push the game to overtime, but Dordt (10-2, 3-2 GPAC) came away victorious in a battle between Sioux County rivals.

The Raiders and Defenders were in an evenly-matched contest through the opening ten minutes of play before Dordt went on an 18-4 run over the next five minutes, taking a 31-16 lead with 6:05 remaining. With 2:05 to go in the first half, Conner Geddes (So., Sioux Falls, S.D.) drained a three-point basket, sparking an 8-0 run in the next minute. Keyton Moser (Jr., Hull, Iowa) added a jumper and Geddes scored from beyond the arc once more to make the score 40-32 heading into the break.

Northwestern clawed their way back into the game, making it a single-possession game on a Dillon Carlson (Sr., Ankeny, Iowa) three to make the score 60-59 with just under 10 minutes to play.

The Raiders took their first lead since the 15:57 point of the first half when Carlson knocked down a pullup three to make the score 74-73 with 3:02 remaining. Dordt's Luke Rankin answered with a three of his own before Northwestern regained the lead after Carlson was fouled on a three-point attempt.

Trailing by one, Carlson drilled a three-pointer to put the Raiders up 80-78, with Dordt sending the game to overtime on the next possession.

Dordt opened up the overtime period on a 9-3 run, which proved to be an insurmountable lead as the Defenders picked up the win on their home court.

"I thought our guys did a great job cutting it to six in the first half, and I'm proud of how they battled in the second half," said head coach Kris Korver. "We had a one-point lead twice and just needed a stop, but it was a great ball game. Both teams competed really hard, but we have to respond. It's an emotional game, but you still have to make sure you're ready to go for the next one. I was proud to be a Raider tonight."
