No. 3 NWC Dominates Top-15 Clash, Downing No. 15 Midland 42-10

Cade Moser tallies his 200th career reception, the second Red Raider to cross 200 career receptions

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – The No. 3-ranked Northwestern College football team (8-1, 8-1 GPAC) proved this afternoon why they are a top-5 football team in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) with a 42-10 dominant win in the top-15 win over No. 15 Midland University (8-2, 7-2 GPAC), taking sole possession of second-place in the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) and keeping their 2022 NAIA Football Championship Series (FCS) hopes alive.
"I thought we got off to a great start which set the tone for the game and how it was played," said head coach Matt McCarty. "We were really able to control the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball."

Northwestern wasted no time against No. 15 Midland this afternoon in front of the home crowd. The Red Raiders scored touchdowns on all three first quarter possessions to jump out to a quick 21-0 lead and never looked back. The day started after NWC took the opening kickoff and marched down the field on a six-play, 78-yard drive that was finished off by a 39-yard touchdown run by Jalyn Gramstad (So., Lester, Iowa).

The next possession's score was set up by a 41-yard pass from Gramstad to Michael Storey (Sr., Spencer, Iowa) that put NWC at the Midland 5-yard line. Konner McQuillan (Jr., Leavenworth, Kan.) capped it off, punching it in the very next play to make it 14-0 Northwestern.

A 40-yard strike from Gramstad to Cade Moser (Sr., Rock Valley, Iowa) early in the second quarter would prove to put the game out of reach, making it 21-0. Northwestern would take a 21-3 halftime lead, as the Red Raiders would have 255 yards of total offense at the break.

The second half proved to be just more Red Raider dominance as three more touchdowns in the third quarter would make the game lopsided. The first score of the second half was setup by a poor Midland punt, as NWC only had to go 29 yards after a 19-yard Warrior punt. Gramstad would rush for his second score of the day, taking full advantage of the short field.

Following a Midland three-and-out, McQuillan would take the first play from scrimmage and take it 62 yards to the house – the longest play of the day by either side, making it 35-3 Red Raiders. The very next Warrior possession would end with six points on the scoreboard for Northwestern, as freshman Ben Egli (Fort Dodge, Iowa) would pick off Trevor Havlovic's pass and return it 32 yards for the score, tallying his third interception of the season and being the final Raider score of the day.

"Ben is just a playmaker on defense," concluded McCarty. "He made a great break on the ball for a touchdown, icing on the cake."
