NWC Finishes Regular Season on Nine-Game Win Streak

Raiders hold opponent to 10 or less points for ninth-straight game

HASTINGS, Neb. – The No. 3-ranked Northwestern College football team (9-1, 9-1 GPAC) rolled passed the Hastings College Broncos (7-4, 6-4 GPAC) in the regular season finale, behind four touchdowns by sophomore quarterback Jalyn Gramstad.

"I am proud of how our guys competed and finished the regular season strong this afternoon," commented head coach Matt McCarty. "Jalyn (Gramstad) outstanding. He was able to extend plays with his feet and create some big plays."

The Red Raiders would score touchdowns on their first four possessions of the game to quickly put away the Broncos down in Hastings, Neb.

Northwestern jumped out to a quick two touchdown lead (13-0) in the first quarter, proving to be all the Red Raiders would need to win the contest when it was all said and done. Both scores in the opening quarter would come via the feet of Gramstad (So., Lester, Iowa) who picked up two more rushing scores.

The Raiders wasted no time in the second quarter, capping off a 10-play, 76-yard drive to jump out to the 20-0 lead thanks to a 2-yard touchdown pass from Gramstad to Cade Moser (Sr., Rock Valley, Iowa). Later in the quarter, once again the defensive stole the spotlight with their fourth defensive touchdown of the season. Adam Gubbels (Jr., Council Bluffs, Iowa) forced a fumble from Hastings' back Antoine Murphy which was subsequently picked up by Noah Van't Hof (Sr., Lester, Iowa) and returned 43 yards to the house.

"Noah (Van't Hof) made some big plays for us defensively," said McCarty. "His scoop-and-score was big for momentum!"

Late in the second quarter, Gramstad would pick up his fourth touchdown of the day, and second passing, as he found Michael Storey (Sr., Spencer, Iowa) for an 11-yard score to extend their lead up to 34-0. The score would hold heading to the halftime break.

More Raiders would see playing time in the second half, as Blake Fryar (Sr., Waukee, Iowa) would find Moser from 41 yards out to keep the pressure on the Hastings defense, making the lead 41-0 with 11:31 to play in the third. It would prove to be the final score of the day for Northwestern. It would be Hastings who put up their lone 10 points on the scoreboard in the fourth quarter.
