Three Games Slated for Men's Basketball This Week

Northwestern to travel to Midland and Dordt Thanksgiving Classic

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – The Northwestern men's basketball team (3-2, 0-1 GPAC) will look to bounce back from an overtime loss to begin Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) play, continuing with a conference matchup at Midland (4-4, 0-2 GPAC) and a pair of games at the Dordt Thanksgiving Classic.

LAST TIME OUT:
  • Northwestern dropped their first GPAC matchup of the season, falling 101-90 at Doane.
  • Dillon Carlson (Sr., Ankeny, Iowa) scored a career-high 27 points, drilling seven threes.
  • It took a Kaleb Booth (Fr., Carroll, Iowa) desperation three with seconds remaining to send the game to overtime, after the Raiders had a 23-point lead in the first half.
NORTHWESTERN NOTES:
  • Fifth-year senior guard Grant DeMeulenaere (Sr., Altoona, Iowa) returned to the lineup after missing the previous two games due to injury.
  • The Raiders saw all five starters score in double-figures for the first time this season.
THE SERIES:
  • Northwestern holds a 29-8 advantage all-time against Midland, last winning 77-66 on January 15, 2022 in the Bultman Center. Trent Hilbrands scored 29 points in the win.
  • The Raiders will meet up with Governors State for the first time in program history on Friday.
  • In the series with Oak Hills Christian, Northwestern has an unbeaten 6-0 record. The Raiders defeated the Wolfpack 98-61 at last year's Dordt Thanksgiving Classic.
POLL PARTY:
  • Northwestern is currently receiving votes in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Coaches' Poll. The Raiders are among four GPAC teams represented in the poll, with Jamestown at No. 5, Concordia (Neb. at 23), and Dordt also receiving votes.
  • The Red Raiders were picked to finish third in this year's GPAC preseason poll after finishing third in the conference standings a year ago.
  • Midland was picked ninth in the GPAC Preseason Poll after a ninth-place finish last season.
SCOUTING THE WARRIORS:
  • The Warriors return one of their two All-Conference performers from last year in Ryan Larsen.
  • They are 0-2 so far in conference play, falling to top-25 teams in Concordia (23) and Jamestown (5).
  • Midland finished just outside of the GPAC Tournament in 2021-22, accumlating a 7-13 conference record for a ninth-place finish.
SCOUTING THE JAGUARS:
  • Governors State hails from the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC).
  • The Jaguars enter Friday's game on a two-game winning streak, defeating Holy Cross College (Ind.) and Calumet St. Joseph (Ind.).
  • Nick Mikash leads the Jaguars in scoring, averaging 10.7 points per outing.
  • Tony Bates is entering his eighth season as the head coach at Governors State.
SCOUTING THE WOLFPACK:
  • A member of the National Christian Colleges Athletic Association (NCCAA), Oak Hills Christian calls the Northern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (NIAC) home.
  • Quincy Wilson averages 16.4 points per game to lead the Wolfpack, while Deontray Anderson has picked up 16.0 points per contest.
  • The Wolfpack will have a full schedule ahead, playing four games in five days ahead of their matchup with Northwestern.
