No. 7 Northwestern Completes Season Sweep of Mustangs

Red Raiders pick up their seventh-straight sweep

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – The No. 7-ranked Northwestern College volleyball team (18-4, 8-3 GPAC) used a blistering .330 team hitting percentage to down the Morningside Mustangs (8-17, 3-8 GPAC) in straight sets (25-19, 25-16, 25-7) inside the Bultman Center.

"I thought we got better as the night went on and started playing faster and faster," said head coach Kyle Van Den Bosch. "Our serving, especially Alysen (Dexter), put a lot of pressure on Morningside. Macay (Van't Hul) had another great night offensively which really opens up our offense. It was a good home win for our team."

The night started fast, with four Raider points out of the gate. Eventually, Northwestern would open up a 10-3 advantage, thanks to five kills from sophomore Jazlin De Haan (Orange City, Iowa). The Red Raiders would close out the opening set 25-19, thanks to a combination of the high-powered Raider attacks and Mustang miscues. De Haan had seven kills on 13 swings in the opening set, for a .538 hitting percentage.

Northwestern turned it on even more in the second set, jumping out to an early 9-3 advantage, aided by six Mustang errors. That would be all the Raiders needed, going on cruise control and taking the second set 25-16.

As the night progressed, the Raiders became more and more dominant and that was evident in the final set that saw the Mustangs only put up seven points. The arms came alive in the final set, as six different Raiders notched kills in the final set, led by Alysen Dexter (So., Urbandale, Iowa) who notched six herself in the set. Northwestern ended the match on a nine-point run, led by Dexter behind the service line who put down two of her four service aces in the run.
