Stout Defense at the Net Leads to 3-0 Win at Mount Marty

NWC holds Lancers to negative hitting percentage

YANKTON, S.D. – The No. 7-ranked Northwestern College volleyball team (14-4, 5-3 GPAC) picks up their third-straight victory with a straight sets win on the road at Mount Marty (6-10, 1-7 GPAC), moving into a tie-for-fourth in the loaded Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC).
Trailing 4-3 early, the Raiders went on a 7-0 run to jump out to the 10-4 advantage. An 11-3 spurt later in the set would be what the Raiders needed to pull away and take the opening set (25-12). Northwestern hit lights out in the set (.381), while limiting the Lancers to a -.179 percentage.

Mount Marty would battle back in the second set, as the Lancers would remain neck and neck. Northwestern hit their lowest percentage of the match in the second set (.132). Trailing 21-19 late in the set, the Raiders stormed back taking six-straight points to secure the 25-21 victory, taking the commanding 2-0 match lead.

Mount Marty would fall flat in the final set, again holding a negative hitting percentage. Leading 20-13, the Red Raiders put away the final five points, thanks to three attack errors by the Lancers, to prevail 25-13 to take the match in three sets.
