Raiders Drop Match to Iowa Central

| By:
The Northwestern College men's tennis team lost to Iowa Central Community College 7-0 in a non-conference match played today in Orange City, Iowa. The Raiders move to 4-3 on the season heading into Saturday's final non-conference match (Mount Marty) before GPAC play.

Brian Vanden Berg and Juan Mackrey picked up the lone victory for the Raiders, earning a tie-break win at No.1 doubles against the Tritons top pair, Juan Gomez and Nico Zumba.

"I was very happy with how we battled against a strong Junior College team in Iowa Central," stated Northwestern head coach Monte Tilgner. "Brian and Juan played a great match, winning a thriller in a tiebreaker. Both the No.2 and No.3 doubles matches were very closely played but we couldn't quite finish them out. Brian and Juan played really well but dropped their singles matches in close contests. We played well in the other singles matches and they were much closer than the final scores would indicate."

1. Brian Vanden Berg (2-4) lost to Juan Gomez, 6-7 (9-7), 6-2
2. Juan Mackrey (3-2) lost to Riku Sugiyama, 6-4, 6-4
3. Chris Jelken (1-6) lost to Nico Zumba, 6-2, 6-0
4. Bradley Bourland (2-4) lost to Theo Devals, 6-0, 6-1
5. Nick VanRijs (2-3) lost to Nick Mathis, 6-1, -3
6. Peyton Scott (2-4) lost to Aleix Garrido, 6-0, 6-0
