Raiders End Missouri Trip with 2-0 Victory

The Red Raiders (2-3) finished off their trip to Missouri with a 2-0 win over William Woods University (2-4).

The first half started off well for NWC as the Raiders would put two early chances on frame but would be thwarted by WWU keeper Ben Faherty. The match would go back and forth for most of the first half seeing both teams put chances together as Northwestern would put together 6 shots while William Woods would have 7 shots. Even with the chances, both teams could not find the back of the net.

The second half was a different story on the score line and it favored the Red Raiders.

The Raiders got on the board in the 56th minute after Phillipe Patri drove down the right side of the field and played Anselmo Kim through who took a shot but it was blocked back to Kim who then backhealed the ball to Mateus Freitas who finished the attack with a goal. It was Freitas' first goal on the year and Kim's first assist.

NWC would double their tally in the 67th minute after the Raiders won possession in the midfield and switched the ball out to the right when Patri played a great cross into the box where Jake Foscalina shook his mark and headed home the cross. It was Foscalina's second goal of the season.

James Warren would put in a good performance in net for the Raiders as he made 10 saves and earned the shutout in the win.

"Today the guys put together the most solid 90-minute performance of the season to date," commented head coach Dan Swier after the match. "They executed the game plan and demonstrated our style of play. The hope is that we can carry some momentum forward from here."

The Raiders travel back home for their last non-conference home match on Wednesday, September 11 as they host Waldorf University (2-2-1) at 7pm.
