The Raiders (3-3) shutout the Warriors from Waldorf University (2-4-1) Wednesday night 2-0.
Northwestern got off to a quick start in the first half when the Raiders found
Brennan Haggerty into the top of the box and he laid the ball across to
James Bolger who hit a one-time finish back post. It was an efficient start for the Raiders.
The first half would see the Raiders generate a handful of chances, especially down the flanks, but none of them changed the score going into halftime.
The second half started well again for NWC as they were able to score in the first ten minutes of the second half.
The Raiders were able to get down the flanks once again as
Chris Ten Pas would scream up the left side of the field and play a ball into
Jake Foscalina who would slide and get a touch to finish past the keeper. It would be Foscalina's team leading 3rd goal of the season.
The Raiders would battle hard defensively as
James Warren would put in seven saves on the day to keep the Warriors out of the Raider goal. NWC has two shutouts in their last two matches.
"It felt like a quick turn-around after playing three matches last week," commented head coach
Dan Swier. "We had some guys out with injuries but thought the guys played well enough to earn this victory. It is encouraging that we have produced two shut-outs in a row!"
Northwestern will finish off their non-conference schedule Saturday night at Bellevue University at 7pm.
