Red Raiders Stay Unbeaten With 3-0 Win Over Baker

No.7 Northwestern remained unbeaten on the season with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-20) sweep against Baker (Kan.) in its final match at the Red Raider Classic this weekend. Northwestern improved to 3-0 and earned its second sweep of the young 2019 season.

Today's win against the Wildcats was the 400th of Head Coach Kyle Van Den Bosch's career, ranking second in program history behind Mike Meyer (452 wins from 1989 -2004).

Makenzie Fink totaled 17 kills for the second consecutive match and has put down double figure kills in all three matches. The junior hit .600 over the three sets. A.J. Kacmarynski (14), Anna Wedel (12) and Bekah Horstman (10) gave Van Den Bosch's squad four players in double figures. Wedel, like Fink, has recorded 10+ kills in every match.

Northwestern hit .442 for the match, totaling 58 kills in 113 attempts. Down by two late in the first set, the Red Raiders closed with a 7-1 run to win the closest of the three sets, 25-21. Kacmarynski began the rally with a successful attack followed by an ace serve while Wedel had a pair of kills during the surge.

Van Den Bosch's squad led from start to finish in winning the second set 25-18. The Red Raiders hit .588 and committed only two errors in 34 attacks.

Like set two, the Red Raiders never trailed in the final set, going an early 5-0 run behind the serving of Emily Strasser and the front line play of Fink and Kacmarynski.

Lacy Wacker directed the offense and put up 51 assists to go with five digs. Strasser led the backrow play with nine digs and Taylor Meyer continued her stellar serving with two aces.

Baker hit .307 and was led by Sophie Heldenbrand with 10 kills.

Northwestern will host William Penn on Tuesday night.
