Seventh-ranked Northwestern ran its record to 4-0 with a sweep against William Penn, 25-14, 25-11, 25-16.
The Red Raiders hit better than .400 in each of the three sets and .488 for the match (45 kills, 82 attempts, 5 errors).
Anna Wedel put down a match-high 12 kills and hit for a .476 efficiency and
Bekah Horstman added 11 kills in 14 attempts, hitting .786.
Coach Van Den Bosch's squad never trailed in winning the first set 25-14. The hosts started fast, going out to a 5-1 lead, and held an 11-point advantage (18-7) to force William Penn into their final timeout. Wedel totaled six kills in the first set and Northwestern hit .571 in the first frame.
Another strong start followed in set two as Northwestern scored eight of the first 11 points on kills from four different players. They stretched the lead to 11 and closed the set by scoring four of the final five points to take set two, 25-11. Northwestern shined defensively and serving, limiting William Penn to six kills in 28 attacks and forcing six errors.
Close early in the third, Northwestern pulled away with a 6-2 run and led 17-10 after successive kills from Horstman and Wedel.
Northwestern totaled 12 aces, three each by
Lacey Wacker,
Emily Strasser and
Jadeyn Schutt. Wacker put up 36 assists and Strasser led the backrow with nine digs.
Bri Kleinwolterink and Wedel both contributed eight digs.
