A five-run fifth inning proved to be the difference in the Red Raiders 8-5 game one win in a GPAC softball doubleheader played today at Bishop Mueller Field in Sioux City, Iowa. Northwestern dropped game two 7-2 and move to 4-6 in the GPAC, 11-18 overall. Â
Briar Cliff is now 4-14 in conference action, 9-25 overall.Â
Tied at three, Northwestern put together five hits and took advantage of a Chargers error to put five runs across in the fifth inning.
Jordyn Kramer hit a one-out double,
Madison Beaver reached base after a BCU error and both scored on an RBI single by
Jennifer Boeve.
Emily Bosch followed with a single and scored, along with Boeve, on a double by
Amber Schubert. Devyn Dreesen completed the scoring with an RBI single that plated Schubert.Â
Briar Cliff came back with a single run in the bottom of the fifth and seventh innings to make the final 8-5.
Sydnee Isom (2-2) earned the win in relief, pitching the final three innings. The freshman yielded three hits and two runs, both earned, and struck out one.
Samantha Ubben gave up three hits and three runs over the first three innings.Â
Bosch led Head Coach
Shane Bouman's squad at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored. Boeve (1/4, run, 2 RBI) and Schubert (1/3, run, 2 RBI) were other top hitters.
Summer Williams (L: 0-4) took the loss, giving up six hits and six runs in four innings. Bailey Nichols and Abbygail Lint had two hits each for BCU.Â
Northwestern mustered just three hits compared to 12 by the host Chargers in the 7-2 game-two loss.Â
Briar Cliff put two runs across in the first and three more in the second, all off Red Raider starter
Emma Schnell (L: 6-11) who pitched the first two innings. Isom (1.2 IP, 4 hits, 2 runs) and Ubben (2.1 IP, 2 hits, 0 runs) completed the game for NWC.Â
Schubert belted her fourth home run of the season, a solo shot in the fourth inning.
Jordyn Kramer added an RBI double and
Emily Strasser went 1-3 and scored a run.Â
Alayna Allen (W: 6-6) earned the win, going the full seven innings and struck out five. Nichols went 2-for-2 and scored three runs.Â
