Trent Hilbrands scored a game-high 30 points in leading 19th-ranked Northwestern to a 93-64 victory over Bethesda (Calif.) in the final game of the team's holiday trip to California.Â
Northwestern finished 2-1 on their trip and improve to 13-3 overall as they move into the heart of their conference schedule.
Hilbrands had the hot-hand, matching his career-best with seven three-pointers, and scoring 30+ points for the second time this season and third for his career.
Craig Sterk netted 18 points, going 9-for-10 from the floor, and grabbed six rebounds.
Jay Small was the third and final Red Raider to reach double figures with 11.
Just like in Tuesday's win over Thompson Rivers, Northwestern ran out to a big early lead against Bethesda, scoring the first 10 points of the game.
Isaac Heyer began the run with a three-pointer, followed by baskets by Hilbrands and another three-pointer by Small. The Flames scored their first basket at the 14:41 mark but Northwestern followed with a 21-5 surge for a commanding 31-7 advantage with seven minutes left in the first half. They held a 46-23 lead at the break, shooting 56% compared to 28% by Bethesda.
An 11-0 run pushed the Red Raiders lead to 64-30 after a pair of free throws by
Keegan Van Egdom with 13:48 left in the game. Northwestern led by at least 25 points the rest of the way.
Northwestern shot 55% for the game, 44% (12/27) from the three-point line.
Grant Rohrer added eight points to go with six boards and two assists. Head Coach
Kris Korver's squad outrebounded Bethesda 42-23, led by Van Egdom with seven.
The Flames were led by Amar Ross with 22 points and Igli Pirgu scored 12.
Northwestern returns to action on Jan.2 with a home game against Concordia.
