Jay Small and
Grant Rohrer combined for 51 points in leading Northwestern to a 103-94 upset win against 16th-ranked University of Jamestown this afternoon at the Bultman Center.
Northwestern improves to 6-2 on the season, 2-1 in the GPAC; the Jimmies are now 1-2 in conference action, 7-3 overall.Â
Small missed just two shots, going 10-for-12 from the floor, and a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line en route to a season-high 30 points, Rohrer netted a career-high 21 points, missing only one shot from the field (9/10). Rohrer (7) and Small (6) led the rebounding effort as well and Small dished out a team-high six assists.Â
Both teams shot well, Northwestern at 56%, including 61% in the first half; Jamestown shot an even 50% for the game.Â
After Jamestown held the lead for much of the opening 10 minutes, Northwestern went ahead for good with an 8-0 run on a pair of
Christian Korver three-pointers and basket by
Trent Hilbrands. The Red Raiders outscored the Jimmies 12-5 over the final three-plus minutes to take a 57-47 lead into halftime.Â
Using a 10-1 run, Jamestown crept back to within one on two separate occasions in the second half, the final at the 9:55 mark (73-72). Leading 85-83, Northwestern put the game away with an 11-2 run, led by Rohrer and Small, to go up 96-85 at the two-minute mark.Â
In addition to Small and Rohrer,
Isaac Heyer scored a season-high 17 points, followed by Hilbrands with 14 and Korver with 10.Â
Jamestown was led by Jack Talley with 21 points and Isaiah Dobson added 16.Â
