The Red Raiders grabbed their first GPAC win of the year on the road at Mount Marty College. The 6-2 win was the second win on the year for the Raiders.
Northwestern opened up the scoring in the 19th minute after
Tatiana Garcia beat her mark and slotted a ball accross the face of goal to
Jessi Carver who tapped home the finish.
Garcia would then get her goal 2 minutes later of a similar play by
Cherish Shuka who found Garcia for the easy finish.
The Lancers would get on the board in the first half with a long shot from Sahe Prvencher that goalkeeper
Liz Foster could not reach.
The Raiders would earn back the 2 goal lead 2 minutes after the Lancer goal with a great cross by
Brenna Rauwerdink to
Megan Sattler for her first goal of the season. The assist was Rauwerdink's first on the year.
The second half was a bit of a struggle to start for both teams as neither one could create a really dangerous chance. That would change in the 59th minute when the Raiders earned a corner and
Nikky Farnsworth got on the end of the
Kadence Cruse cross for a shot off of her hip.
Garcia would double her tally 30 seconds later after the forward group dispossessed the Lancers off the kickoff and Farnsworth found Garcia for the 1v1 finish on the keeper.
Shay Kamstra would get her first tally of the year after earning a penalty kick in the 84th minute. She calmly put away the finish to give the Raiders a 5 goal lead. The Lancers would make the lead 4 after Isabella Diaz Short got on the end of a through ball and was able to beat Foster 1v1.
"It was a good night for us to get on the board early and keep the pressure on," commented head coach
Ben Karnish. "We scored two times in two minutes in both the first half and the second half and Megan's goal along with Shay's were well earned. It was good for us to have a hold on the game from start to finish."
The Raiders out shot the Lancers 30-8 and 19-4 on goal.
Northwestern travels to Doane College (Neb.) Saturday for another GPAC match. The kickoff is slated for 1pm.
