The Red Raiders earned their second straight GPAC win as they went on the road and beat Doane University 1-0 Saturday afternoon.
Northwestern started off fast and kept the pressure up early and often and earned a series of corner kicks. The Raiders would convert on the second corner kick as
Kadence Cruse would hit a ball that went back post to
Nikky Farnsworth who was unmarked and Farnsworth would head home the easy finish for her 3rd on the year.
The Raiders would generate more chances at the end of the first half but could not connect for a finish.
The second half started off well for the Raiders and they generated 3 great chances in the first 5 minutes of the second half but once again, could not convert the chances.
Northwestern would be strong defensively throughout and limit Doane to only one chance on goal.
Liz Foster was able to make that save an earn her first career shutout and the Raider's first of the year.
"It is always good to get a GPAC win on the road," commented head coach
Ben Karnish. "Most of the games in the GPAC are tight one way or another and today was no different. Nice to be able to have a 2-0 week in conference and get back to .500."
The Raiders, now 3-7 overall and 2-2 in the GPAC while the Tigers drop to 0-4 in the GPAC and 2-8 overall.
Northwestern will take on Briar Cliff at home Wednesday, October 3rd at 5pm.
