Ian Wiersma (
Zeeland, Mich) has signed a letter of intent to continue his cross country and track and field careers at Northwestern College next year.
Wiersma is a 6'2" middle distance/distance runner who has competed a combined seven seasons for the Zeeland East High School cross country and track and field teams heading into his final track season this spring. Wiersma earned all-conference recognition two years and all-region honors as a senior in cross country. He has a personal best of 16:44 in the 5K. In track, Wiersma earned all-state honors and helped his team to the state championship as a junior. Also an all-conference selection in track, he has personal bests of 53 in the 400m, 2:01 in the 800m, 4:44 in the 1600m and 10:36 in the 3200m. A member of the National Honor Society, Wiersma plans to major in Spanish/English Translation and Interpretation at Northwestern. He is the son of Matt and Beth.
