Baseball Finishes 5-2 In Tuscon

Raiders now 7-8 overall in 2018

Game 1- Northwestern College 6 (7-7)
Valley City State University 5 (4-8)

On The Mound

Sophomore Alec Rickabaugh made his first start of the 2018 season. Rickabaugh had an impressive freshman season, which saw him go 5-1 with a 3.99 ERA. Rickabaugh held Valley City to three runs over 6 2/3 innings pitched, while striking out one, and only walking one. Mark Primrose came in to face one hitter and got the job done throwing one pitch and recording an out.  Tanner Ortlund entered the game in the 8th inning striking out the side.  Ortlund looked to close out the game in the 9th with a one run lead, but Valley City battled back with two outs to score two runs.  Ortlund record five strikeouts in the two innings he pitched.  The Raider offense found a way to win it for Ortlund and the Raiders in the bottom of the 9th inning to improve his record to 1-1 on the season.

At The Plate

The Raider offense took until the 5th inning to get on the scoreboard, but they were able to tie the game up at 2-2 with a Reed Smith two run home-run his first home-run of his career.  Things got crazy in the 8th inning with the Raiders trailing by a score of 3-2 when pinch runner Mason O'Donnell came in to score on a wild pitch to tie the game. One batter later Mitchell Kresnik at the time looked like the hero as he drove in the go ahead run with Christian Stekl scoring from 3rd base with two outs.  After Valley City scored two of their own in the top of the 9th the Raider offense went back to work trailing 5-4. AJ Nitzschke singled to lead off the bottom of the 9th inning.  After Smith was retired, Colton Harold got hit by a pitch to put runners on 1st and 2nd with one out. Michael Callahan put a good swing on a ball that ended up being caught by the center fielder for the second out.  Matt Martin laced a double into centerfield in which Nitzschke scored to tie the game and pinch runner Britton Yoder flew around the bases to end the game in walk-off fashion for the Raiders. Harold and Martin lead the way with two hits apiece. Smith and Martin each ended with two RBI's.
