Red Raiders Come Up Short Against Midland

Northwestern College dropped a conference match to Midland 6-3 this afternoon in Orange City, Iowa. The Red Raiders are now 2-3 in the GPAC, 6-6 overall. 

The Red Raiders picked up their lone doubles win at No.2 as Kendra McGinnis and Emma Van Drie defeated Christina Villareal and Olivia Neth 8-6, improving to 6-5 on the year. Midland earned the other two doubles' wins in tight, competitive matches. 

Yemisi Ayeni and Zoe Holscher earned the lone singles' wins, picking up victories at the top two spots. Ayeni (9-3) defeated Annie Allmand 8-2 for her team-leading ninth win of the year. Holscher picked up a 9-7 win over Whitney Schutt, improving her record to 8-4. 

Northwestern's busy week continues as they head to Nebraska for matches against both Doane and Concordia on Friday and Saturday, April 21-22.

No. 2 Zoe Holscher (8-4) def. Whitney Schutt, 9-7

No. 4 McKayla Johnson (2-8) lost to Carolyn Howton, 6-2, 7-6 (10-7)

No. 5 Emma Van Drie (4-7) lost to Olivia Neth, 6-2, 6-4

No. 6 Kelly Shortenhaus (5-7) lost to Danielle Martin, 6-0, 6-1

Doubles

No.1 Ayeni/Holscher (6-6) lost to Allmand/Schutt, 9-8 (7-4)

No.2 McGinnis/Van Drie (6-5) def. Villareal/Neth, 8-6

No.3 Johnson/Alli Derr (2-2) lost to Martin/Kayla Bussing, 8-6
