Northwestern College was edged by Doane 63-60 in a GPAC match-up played this afternoon in Crete, Neb. The Red Raiders have dropped three straight and fall to 8-9 in conference play, 16-9 overall.
Darbi Gustafson poured in game-high 20 points, going 8-for-11 from the field, and Kassidy De Jong scored 17 to lead the Red Raiders.
How It Happened...
Northwestern led by two, 11-9, by the end of the first quarter, getting all its points from De Jong (6) and Gustafson (5).
Doane scored the first eight points of the second quarter to take its largest lead of the game, 17-11; still with a six-point advantage (19-13), Northwestern began its best run of the contest, outscoring the hosts 16-4 over a six-minute span to take a 29-23 lead with two minutes left in the first half.
Northwestern led 31-26 by halftime.
A back and forth third quarter ended with a 46-46 tie; the lead changed hands seven times and the score was tied four times in the period.
With Doane up four (56-52) after a lay-up by Allie Satterly at the 2:33 mark, Kassidy De Jong scored on back-to-back three-point plays and then made a lay-up to put Northwestern up 60-58 with 55 seconds left.
Doane, however, scored the final five points, getting a three-point play by Satterly and two free throws by Barnard, to get the win.

Doane was led by Hanah Barnard with 17 points and was joined in double figures by Jenna Nieveen (15), Morgan Hill (13) and Allie Satterly (10).
