Anna Kiel scored a game-high 16 points in leading Northwestern to a 64-55 win over Mount Marty in a GPAC match-up played tonight at the Bultman Center.
The win improves the Red Raiders to 9-9 in the GPAC, 17-9 overall, and snaps their three-game losing streak. Mount Marty slips to 5-12 in conference play, 11-16 overall.
Kiel made 8-of-12 field goal attempts and also pulled down nine boards, just one shy of recording her second career double-double. Haley Birks netted nine points and Darbi Gustafson added eight points and seven boards.
How It Happened...
Northwestern held a two-point (19-17) lead after one quarter and then used a 6-0 run at the start of the second period to open up a 25-17 advantage. Back-to-back field goals by Gustafson and two free throws by Kassidy De Jong sparked the NWC run.
Mount Marty responded with a 9-0 run on three consecutive three-pointers by Ali Kuca (2) and Kellie Winckler (1) to grab a 26-25 lead. The game remained tight at the break with Northwestern holding onto a 38-36 advantage.
Still a close game (43-42) at the 5:55 mark of the third quarter, Northwestern went on a decisive 15-1 run that extended into the opening minutes of the final quarter, giving the hosts a 58-43 advantage. Kiel played a big part, scoring eight points during the run.
Mount Marty made one last charge, getting to within five after a three-pointer by Logan Wagner and a free throw by Sammy Kasowski with a minute left. Renee Maneman and Paige Danner combined to go 6-for-8 from the free throw line, however, to seal the Red Raiders win.

Northwestern shot 40% from the field, 21% (4/19) from beyond the arc; Mount Marty shot 35% for the game, 33% (7/21) from three-point.
The Red Raiders held a commanding 43-28 edge on the boards, led by Kiel with nine, De Jong with eight and Gustafson with seven. Northwestern has had the advantage on the glass in 10 of its last 12 games.
Both Danner and Chanda Zomermaand dished out three assists, Danner totaled four steals.
Ali Kuca led Mount Marty with 14 points and Denae Veldkamp scored 11.
