Game Time...No.5 Northwestern College is set to open pool play on Tuesday, Nov. 28 at the 2017 NAIA Volleyball National Championship held at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa. Northwestern, the top seed in pool E and fifth overall seed in the 32-team field, will play (RV) Lourdes (Ohio) on Tuesday night at 5pm. The Red Raiders will then play 21st-ranked Bellevue (Neb.) on Wednesday night at 6pm, followed by the final match in pool play on Thursday night at 8pm.Â

All-Time...
  Northwestern is 0-1 all-time against Lourdes, losing 3-0 to the Gray Wolves at the Red Raider Classic in 2016.
  Northwestern is 9-6 all-time against Bellevue but lost the last match played against the Bruins, 3-1, at the Red Raider Classic in 2016. Northwestern is 1-0 all-time against the Bruins at the NAIA Championship, earning a 3-1 win in 2008.
  This will be the first ever match against College of Idaho.
Championship Format...A total of 32 teams are put in eight pools of four and every team will play the three other teams in their pool, one match per day, beginning on Tuesday, Nov. 28 and concluding Thursday, Nov.30. The two teams with the best record in each pool advance to play in a 16-team, single-elimination tournament, that will begin on Friday morning, Dec.1. The final eight (quarterfinals) will be later that night, followed by the semifinals on Saturday morning and the championship match on Saturday night, Dec. 2 at 7pm.

      Coach Reitz returns two starters and four players from 2016 team that finished as the co-regular season champion of the WHAC with a 15-1 record and won the postseason title for the second straight year. They went 1-2 in pool play but did not advance to the round of 16, finishing with a 27-7 record. Hired in 2009 to start the Lourdes program, Reitz is the only coach in program history and also coaches the men's team.Â
     Lourdes began the year ranked 22nd in the coaches' poll, earned votes in the next poll and then dropped out of the next four. They received votes in the final edition of the coaches' poll and have a 1-6 record against the 32-team field.
