Northwestern lost to No.9 Northwood (Fla.) 9-0 in the first round of the NAIA Women's Tennis National Championship played this afternoon at the Mobile Tennis Center in Mobile, Ala.
The Red Raiders, making their first trip to the NAIA Tennis Championship, close the season with a 13-7 record. Northwood advances to the second round with a 9-6 record and will play No. 8 Brenau (Ga.).
Northwestern dropped all three doubles' matches at the start, losing 8-3 at the top two doubles' spots.
This marks the final matches for the two seniors, Frankie Eszes and Terry Odera. Eszes, a three-time GPAC player of the year and four-time first team all-conference pick, closes her career as the winningest player in both singles (49-22) and doubles (49-23). Odera, a two-time all-conference pick, finishes her career tied for 11th all-time with a 22-28 singles record and second all-time with a 38-15 all-time record in doubles.
Valerie Robinson, junior from Vermillion, closed the season with a 16-4 record, the second most wins in a single season at NWC. Daniela Lozano finished the year 14-5, tied for the fifth most wins in a single season.
Northwestern finished the year with a 13-7 record and won its first ever GPAC Championship.
