Northwestern College picked up a pair of wins at the 2015 GPAC women's tennis tournament played today at the Fremont High School tennis facility. Seeded third, Northwestern defeated No. 6 Doane 5-1 and then edged No. 2 Morningside 5-4 in a close match to advance to its first ever GPAC tennis championship.
With the match tied at four, sophomore Daniel Lozano picked up a tough, three-set win at #3 singles over Cassie Stanek, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6, to secure her team's win. Lozano also picked up a win at No. 2 doubles, along with partner Valerie Robinson.Â
Frankie Eszes won both her singles and doubles matches and Robinson earned a straight set win at No. 4 singles.
Northwestern won two of three doubles matches in its 5-1 win over Doane in the conference quarterfinals. Eszes and partner Terry Odera picked up a win at #1 and Lozano and Robinson earned a win at No. 2. Northwestern picked up three quick wins in singles play for the win.
The Red Raiders will face top-seed Nebraska Wesleyan on Saturday, May 2 at 10am.
