Taylor Malm has earned a roster spot on the 2011 US National Team, assembled by USA Football. The team will compete July 8-16 in Austria among a field of eight national teams spanning four continents at the International Federation of American Football (IFAF) Senior World Championship.
Team USA is led by head coach Mel Tjeerdsma (former Northwest Missouri State head coach), offensive coordinator Larry Kehres (Mount Union head coach), and defensive coordinator Lou Tepper (former Illinois head coach). USA Football is the sport’s national governing body in the United States and is the official football development partner of the NFL and its 32 teams.
Forty-five (45) U.S. players will take part in a training camp June 28 to July 4 before departing for Austria. As the sport’s national governing body, participation in USA Football’s national team program does not affect NCAA eligibility. U.S. Men’s National Team players must be at least 20 years old.
Last season, Malm finished his career as an AFCA NAIA All-American, VSN First Team All-American, First Team All-GPAC, and with the fourth highest career rushing touchdown total in school history (36). Malm was second in the GPAC in rushing yards in 2010, to teammate Brandon Smith, as Northwestern led the GPAC in rushing. For his career, Malm had 2694 rushing yards and 594 receiving yards. Malm was also a force in the return game, returning two kickoffs for touchdowns in his career and averaging 39.2 yards per kick return. Malm was eight yards short of 5,000 yards career all purpose yards.
