Haverdink joins the Raider cross country and track and field staff as a distance coach for head coach Scott Bahrke in 2022. He returns to coaching cross country after being on staff in 2000-2003, where he coached two-time NAIA national champion Jacob Koczman.Â
He ran cross country and track as a Red Raider all four years. He was a one-time national qualifier in cross country and a five-time national qualifier in track and field. Haverdink qualified for nationals in five different track events - 800m, 1000m, 4x400, 4x800, and distance medley relays. He also served as a team captain on both the cross country and track teams, earning All-Conference honors in the 800m and 1500m.Â
"As a student-athlete at NWC, my life was shaped in significant ways through the incredible, Christ-like influence of my coaches and teammates. It is a blessing to now have the opportunity to coach, mentor, and pour into the lives of our current student-athletes," says Haverdink. "I count it a privilege to be a part of NWC’s tradition rich cross-country and track programs; programs that seek to honor Christ through excellence in athletics."Â
Haverdink is a 1997 graduate of Northwestern College with a degree in Business Education. While at NWC, he was an Academic All-American. In 2005, he earned his master's degree in Higher Education from Geneva College (Pa.). He currently serves as the Dean of Residence Life at Northwestern.Â
