Coach Van Den Bosch Earns 600th Victory with Raider Sweep

OMAHA, Neb. — Northwestern swept Bethel (KS) 3-0 on Saturday, winning 25-15, 25-13, 25-21. The Red Raiders hit .311 with 44 kills and held the Threshers to a .000 hitting percentage and 26 kills.

Stella Winterfeld had kills on the Red Raiders' first two points, and after the Threshers got within 2-1, the Raiders scored the next seven points to move ahead 9-1 behind two more Winterfeld kills, a Nyah Potthoff kill, an Aubrey De Groot kill and a Sidney Oostra service ace. The Threshers later put together three straight points to close to 11-6, but the Red Raiders answered through sideout kills from De Groot, Maddy Sampson, Aubree Shields and Winterfeld to keep the set from tightening. The Raiders reached 21-12 on a De Groot kill and a block by De Groot and Halie Kapelke, and after the Threshers scored consecutive points, De Groot and Kapelke each added late kills. De Groot finished the set with the final kill as the Red Raiders took the opening set 25-15.

The Red Raiders moved from a 4-3 edge to an 11-3 lead in the second set, with Winterfeld serving through a run that included her ace, three Shields kills from Potthoff and two Threshers attack errors. The Threshers cut the gap to 12-7 behind an ace and a block, but the Raiders answered with four straight points, including a Kapelke kill and Shields kill, to push the lead to 16-7. After the Threshers pulled within 18-13, Jadyn Hofmeyer's kill gave the serve back to the Red Raiders, and Potthoff served the final six points, adding an ace and a kill before Hofmeyer closed the 25-13 set win.

After the Threshers built an early 7-3 lead with consecutive kills by Hannah Retallack and Dylan Cochran, the Red Raiders worked back to tie the set at 9-9 on a Potthoff kill. Sampson and Shields added kills in a stretch that put the Raiders ahead 14-11, but the Threshers answered with five straight points, including two Alayna Vines kills and a Mari Phillips kill, to move in front 16-14. The Red Raiders trailed 19-16 before Aubrey De Groot and Winterfeld kills and a Tiara Keyes attack error evened the set at 19-19, and Hofmeyer kills tied it at 20-20 and gave the Raiders a 21-20 lead. After the Threshers tied it at 21-21 on a service error, Hofmeyer put the Red Raiders back in front, Cameron Offerle's attack error and a Sampson kill brought up set point, and another Offerle attack error finished the Raiders' 25-21 set win.
