Raiders Battle Lancers in Road Loss

YANKTON, S.D. — Northwestern lost to Mount Marty 2-0 Saturday. The Red Raiders put four of their six shots on goal, but the Lancers finished with a 17-6 advantage in shots and a 9-1 edge in corner kicks.
 
The Lancers generated the early pressure with a shot and two corner kicks in the opening five minutes, then went ahead 1-0 at 8:26. Bailey Bynum kept the Red Raiders within one with first-half saves, including two stops, while the Lancers also hit the crossbar at 10:02. The Raiders put chances on frame through Ella Gates at 19:04 and Hannah Gordon at 32:34, but both attempts were saved. The Lancers continued to create late set-piece and shot opportunities, and Bynum's save at 41:06 helped keep the score at 1-0 entering halftime.
 
The Lancers put the Red Raiders under pressure early in the second half, taking shots at 48:49 and 49:39 around two corner kicks while the Raiders kept the deficit at 1-0 through that stretch. The home side added to the lead at 52:15, making it 2-0, and Bynum saved an attempt three minutes later. The Lancers continued to create chances from 57:13 through 67:54, including two corner kicks and a shot off the crossbar, before the Raiders generated a corner by Mya Cole and shots from Camryn Wilkinson and Lucy Staines in the final 16 minutes of the 2-0 loss.

  • Four of Northwestern's six shots were on goal, with Gates and Gordon recording first-half attempts on frame
  • Bynum made five saves as Mount Marty put seven shots on goal
  • Northwestern earned one corner kick, coming in the second half off the foot of Mya Cole
  • The Raiders move to 7-3 overall and 1-2 in GPAC play
