YANKTON, S.D. — Northwestern's offense came out firing Saturday night, scoring three times in the first half on the way to a 4-1 victory over Mount Marty.
The Raiders put the pressure on early, with Emerson Brazones forcing a save just over three minutes into the match. After Mount Marty's James Starkey hit the crossbar in the sixth minute, Northwestern settled into an offensive rhythm, earning three corner kicks before finally breaking through in the 20th minute.
Gorka Ilundain opened the scoring with his first goal of the night, and the Raiders didn't have to wait long for another. Brazones doubled the lead in the 25th minute, finishing off a Bram Zwinkels assist. Zwinkels then helped set up Daniel Lindahl for Northwestern's third goal in the 32nd minute, sending the Raiders into halftime with a 3-0 advantage.
Northwestern continued to control the match after the break. Rasmus Morrison added to the lead in the 54th minute, scoring off an assist from Brazones to make it 4-0.
The Lancers pushed back midway through the second half, but goalkeeper Edoardo Alessandrini came up with a pair of saves to keep Mount Marty off the board. Starkey eventually got the Lancers on the scoreboard in the 77th minute, but the Raiders quickly settled back in and saw out the remainder of the match.
Northwestern finished with 16 shots, putting 13 on goal, while Alessandrini recorded four saves in the victory.
