Home Shutout Pushes Raiders to Best Start in Program History

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – Grace Timm scored two goals to help the Raider women's soccer team earn a 2-0 victory and its best-ever record to start to a season.
 
The Red Raiders generated the first sustained pressure of the first half, with Olivia Regnerus shooting high in the first minute and Lydia Timm putting a header on goal near the five-minute mark. The chances continued with a blocked attempt by Hailey Henson, another Cole corner and a Red Raiders header off the crossbar at 11' before the Warriors pushed back with three wide attempts. The Red Raiders came back with looks from Adah Baron, Regnerus, Cole and Regnerus again, but the Warriors created the next extended stretch as Ella Top saved a pair of shots. Grace Timm had two late attempts for the Red Raiders, including one saved at 44:10 to send the match to the break tied 0-0.
 
With the match still scoreless early in the second half, the Warriors put together a stretch that included a shot wide, a corner kick, a defensive save and a Top save in the opening five minutes. The Red Raiders broke through at 65:49 when Grace Timm scored off a header deflection to make it 1-0. The Raiders added pressure with attempts from Avery McEntee, Arie Morelock and Timm before Timm converted a penalty kick at 84:11 to extend the lead to 2-0. The Raider defense held on for the shutout, clinching a 2-0 win in their GPAC opener.

  • Northwestern's 7-1 record marks the best start in the 31-year history of its program.
  • Grace Timm scored two goals, scoring in back-to-back matches.
  • Ella Top improved her record to 7-0, picking up nine saves in the shutout.
  • Shots were even at 16 each.
  • Northwestern attempted six corner kicks to Midland's three.
