Raiders Claim Dramatic Win Over MACU

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – Northwestern defeated Mid-America Christian (Okla.) 2-0 in a gritty battle on Thursday night. In their first-ever meeting against MACU, the Red Raiders also withstood nine Evangels attacking actions over the final 11:12 without conceding.

The Raiders kept MACU off the board in the first half, with Edoardo Alessandrini making saves on shots in the 21st and 33rd minutes before another attempt hit the post late in the half. Earlier, the Red Raiders generated the first attacking chances, earning a Juan Miranda corner kick at 5:27 and getting a Daniel Lindahl shot wide right at 8:31. After the Evangels applied pressure later in the half, Gonzalo Domingo recorded the Raiders' next shot in the 41st minute, sending it high as the teams went into halftime scoreless at 0-0.

The Raiders started the second half with Miranda's corner kick and saved shots from Diego Quintero and Gorka Ilundain, while Alessandrini kept MACU off the board with saves on Elias Hirt and Leonardo Leitao. Later on, Bongkefon Kumla opened the scoring for the Red Raiders at 58:41, finishing a goal as Rasmus Morrison played a ball in from the right side off Emerson Brazones for a 1-0 lead.  The Red Raiders protected the lead through a stretch that included an Alessandrini save on Daniel Gallagher and Ben Nederpel's defensive save on Vito Callaci. Tito Linares added a second goal at 81:34 off Owen Smallfield's assist, and the Raiders finished the 2-0 win despite late pressure playing one man down for the final 24 minutes and two men down for the final two minutes.
