Northwestern Falls at the End in Season Opener

OSKALOOSA, Iowa – Northwestern falls to William Penn with a final score of 2-1 on Saturday at Drost Field. The Raiders scored their lone goal in the first half, but the Statesmen secured the win with two second-half goals.

Northwestern took the lead in the first period with a goal by Mya Cole in the 31st minute, breaking the deadlock against William Penn. The period featured a series of fouls from both teams, along with strategic corner kicks, including one by Lucy Staines for the Raiders early in the game. Bailey Bynum, the Raiders' goalkeeper, made crucial saves, notably stopping shots at the 9th minute and another at the 29th minute. The period concluded with Northwestern holding a 1-0 advantage.

The Statesmen secured a comeback victory over the Raiders with two second-half goals. The equalizer came at the 69:31 mark, leveling the score at 1-1. WPU clinched the win with a decisive goal in the 86th minute. Bynum made several key saves, including a header in the 50th minute, but William Penn's persistent offense ultimately broke through. The goalkeeper for WPU also played a crucial role, saving attempts from Olivia Regnerus, Ella Gates, and Cole to preserve the lead.
