Late Morningside Goals Hand Red Raiders a Road Loss

SIOUX CITY, Iowa — Northwestern falls to Morningside 2-0 on Wednesday. The Red Raiders put three of their four shots on goal and made seven saves while the Mustangs finished with a 26-4 shot advantage.

The Mustangs generated the early chances, but Bailey Bynum saved shots at 2:09 and 8:45, and Morningside put a penalty kick wide at 2:09. After Bynum stopped a shot at 23:10, the Raiders had Bynum sent off at 23:54 and Ella Top took over in goal, but the Mustangs' next three attempts went high as the match stayed 0-0 through 32:18. The Red Raiders created late looks of their own, with Ella Gates forcing a save at 33:38 and Madison Anderson doing the same at 43:13, and the teams went into halftime scoreless at 0-0.

The Raiders spent the opening portion of the second half defending Mustangs pressure, with Top saving attempts from three different Morningside players during a stretch that also included multiple Mustangs corner kicks and off-target shots. The Mustangs continued to create chances after the hour mark, while the Red Raiders put a shot on frame at 78:46 when Adah Baron forced a save. The breakthrough came at 81:21 when Morningsode scored off assists from two players to put the Mustangs ahead 1-0, and they added another at 83:47 for a 2-0 lead. Olivia Regnerus sent the Raiders' final shot wide right at 88:58, and the Mustangs held the margin through the end of the second half for a 2-0 final.
