Raider Magic Heads to the Diamond in Final-Inning Comeback

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – A pair of home runs set up Calab Caciari for the walk-off hit as Northwestern erased a 4-0 deficit in the seventh inning of game two. The Raiders completed the doubleheader sweep after winning 10-0 in game one.

How It Happened
Northwestern dominated Midland with a decisive 10-0 victory on Thursday. The Red Raiders scored five runs in the second inning and held the Warriors to just three hits over seven innings.

In the second inning, Calab Caciari singled and advanced on a throw, followed by Brody Ayers' single to left-center. A wild pitch allowed Caciari to score, setting the stage for a three-run triple by Ranier Castillo, bringing home Jack Craig, TJ Silliman, and Ayers. Castillo had an outstanding game, totaling a career-high five RBIs. Devin Dirkx reached on an error, allowing Castillo to score, closing the inning at 5-0.

The third inning saw Grant Guidry double to right field, advancing to third on a sacrifice by Ayers. Kevin Rubio's sacrifice fly brought Guidry home, extending the lead to 6-0.

In the fourth inning, Bryce Click singled and stole second, with Castillo walking thereafter. Dirkx's single drove in Click, and a sacrifice fly by Caciari scored Castillo, pushing the score to 8-0.

The Raiders added two more runs in the fifth inning. Rubio doubled and was replaced by pinch runner TJ Silliman, who scored alongside Click on Castillo's single, resulting in a final score of 10-0.

Game Notes:
  • Zain Stark pitched a complete game for the Raiders, throwing his first career shutout and allowing just three hits while striking out six, securing the shutout victory.
  • Ranier Castillo went 2-for-3 with a career-high five RBIs and two runs.
  • Devin Dirkx and Kevin Rubio each drove in two runs on one hit.
  • Castillo, Bryce Click, and TJ Silliman each scored twice.
  • Click had two stolen bases.
  • The win marked Northwestern's third shutout victory this season.

How It Happened
Northwestern walked it off with a 5–4 victory over Midland, completing a five-run rally in the seventh inning.

The Red Raiders managed seven hits, including two home runs, while limiting the Warriors to five hits and striking out six batters.

Midland took an early lead in the top of the first inning when Dax Wandler singled to center field, driving in Brody Boyle. The Warriors led 1-0 after one inning.

In the third inning, Midland extended its lead. Brody Boyle scored on a wild pitch after reaching third on a passed ball. Later, Dax Wandler hit a two-run home run to push the Warrior lead to 4-0.

The Raiders rallied in the bottom of the seventh inning. Brody Ayers led off with a double, followed by a walk from Grant Rychnovsky. Bryce Click followed it up hit a three-run rocket to left field, scoring Tyler Schroeder and Rychnovsky. With two outs and trailing by a run, Devin Dirkx added a clutch home run to tie things up. Nikolai Wede then doubled on a difficult pop-up to shallow right before Grant Guidry was intentionally walked to put two runners on.

Calab Caciari then stepped in, delivering the game-winning base hit to send Wede home and clinch the win.
