Raiders Outpaced in GPAC Losses

SIOUX CITY, Iowa - Northwestern traveled to face off against Morningside in an early week double-header, where the Mustangs' offense continued to respond and outscore the Raiders at every turn, earning 14-6 and 9-4 victories.

Game 1: NWC 6 - MSIDE 14 (6 innings)

How It Happened:
Ava Gross opened the game for the Raiders with a solo home run to center field. The Mustangs responded in their half, stealing home to tie the score. In the fourth inning, Allison Koontz hit a solo homer to left field, narrowing the gap. Morningside added two more runs, extending their lead to seven runs, 9-2. 

The fifth inning saw Northwestern add another run with Berkley Johannsen's RBI double, but Morningside responded once again, adding another run to their score. During the sixth inning, the Raiders rallied with three runs. Jenny Luevano and Gross provided RBIs, but the Mustangs countered with four runs, solidifying their advantage. Northwestern would be held scoreless the rest of the game as Morningside held on to win 14-6.

How It Happened:
Morningside began with a commanding first inning, scoring five runs. A two-run homer and a two-RBI single were key plays. Northwestern responded in the third inning with Ava Gross scoring on a Paige Kingery single, reducing the deficit. Morningside extended its lead in the bottom of the third with a three-run inning, highlighted by a second home run. The score stood at 8-1 after three innings.

In the fourth inning, the Raiders narrowed the gap with a three-run performance with Tatum Schmalbeck's RBI double and Kingery's two-RBI single. After a scoreless fifth inning for both teams, Morningside added one more run in the sixth inning, bringing the score to 9-4. The final inning saw no additional runs, resulting in a final score of Morningside 9, Raiders 4.
