Raiders Face Setback Against Ranked Opponent

ORANGE CITY, Iowa — Northwestern College fell to Morningside College with a final score of 6-1 on Monday. The Red Raiders secured their point with a victory at the No. 5 position.

Northwestern was unable to secure the doubles point as the Mustangs swept the doubles matches. 

In singles play, the Raiders faced a challenging series of matches. Morningside's Line Jensen secured a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Matilde Di Martino at No. 1 singles, while Lara Heinrich claimed a 6-2, 6-3 win against Pietra Ferreira at No. 2 singles. The No. 3 and No. 4 singles matches also went to Morningside, with Brooke Marshall defeating Alloree Else 6-0, 6-0, and Helene Kreibich overcoming Madalyn Kolb 6-0, 6-1.

Bryn Higginbotham provided a bright spot for the Raiders, capturing a win at No. 5 singles. Higginbotham battled through a tiebreak to defeat Jil Exelmans 7-6(9), 2-6, and won the third set tiebreaker 11-9. However, Stefany Simplicio concluded the day's action with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Hannah Beckloff at No. 6 singles, sealing Morningside's overall 6-1 win.
