How It Happened
Northwestern picked up a 4-1 victory in Friday's home opener, scoring all four runs in the fifth inning to clinch the game one win.

The Raiders broke a scoreless tie in the fifth inning with a four-run surge. Calab Caciari led off with a single to right field, and Bryce Click followed with a walk. A passed ball advanced both runners, setting up Isaac Short to reach first on an error by the third baseman, allowing Caciari to score. TJ Silliman entered as a pinch runner and would later score when Brody Ayers singled to right, driving in Click. Ranier Castillo capped the inning with a single up the middle, bringing home Ayers and Silliman to cap a four-run fifth.

Hastings responded in the sixth with a run. Peighton Vargas doubled to left field and was replaced by pinch runner Ben Richter, who advanced to third on a flyout and scored on Cody Haynes' groundout, though the Raiders remained ahead 4-1.

Brody Ayers faced four batters in the bottom of the seventh, picking up the save and securing a Red Raider win.

How It Happened

In the third inning, the Broncos took the lead with a three-run effort. Jace Valdez singled and eventually scored on Samuele Bruno's double. Tristan Martinez added two more runs with a single to left field, making it 3-1 in favor of Hastings through three innings.

A sacrifice fly from Guidry capped the inning, pushing the Raiders ahead 9-3.
