ORANGE CITY, Iowa – Northwestern College athletics has named men's golf student-athlete
Evan Smith and softball student-athlete
Tatum Schmalbeck as the Raider Athletes of the Week, presented by American State Bank, for their performances during the week of March 23rd.
MALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Evan Smith, Men's Golf
- Smith (So., Knoxville, Iowa) was the individual winner of the Doane Invite while helping his team take first as well.
- The sophomore shot -5 under over the tournament, and tied a program record of just 65 strokes in Round 2.
- Smith and his team also broke the record for lowest team score with 274 strokes in Round 2.
FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Tatum Schmalbeck, Softball
- Schmalbeck (Jr., Sioux Center, Iowa) did it all for the Raiders, who went 3-1 on the week, pitching to three wins and allowing two runs over 16 innings, while batting .714 in Saturday's doubleheader.
- Saturday's games were the junior's most impressive, pitching 11 consecutive innings, inlcuding a nine-inning win, while allowing just two runs and striking out nine.
- Schmalbeck also had the game-tying RBI double that led to the game-winning error for Northwestern, while adding another double and a homerun in game one.
