High-Scoring Offense Propels Raiders to Series Victory

MCPHERSON, Kan. – Northwestern clinched the series win by taking game one of today's doubleheader at McPherson, but split Saturday's action with a game two loss.

How It Happened
The Red Raiders' offense was powered by three home runs and 18 RBIs, contributing to their 15-hit performance in a 19-6 win in the first game of the day.

Northwestern opened the scoring in the second inning when Grant Guidry hit a solo home run, followed by Ranier Castillo's two-run homer that brought Tyler Schroeder home. Nikolai Wede walked, and Isaac Short doubled to center, scoring Wede to give the Red Raiders a 4–0 lead. The Bulldogs responded with a run in the bottom of the inning, narrowing the gap to 4–1.

In the third inning, Devin Dirkx singled and advanced on a wild pitch, setting up Guidry for an RBI single to extend the lead to 5–1. The Raiders' defense held the Bulldogs scoreless in the bottom of the third.

The fourth inning saw the Red Raiders capitalizing on the Bulldogs' errors, as Dirkx's sacrifice fly and Guidry's fielder's choice added two runs. Castillo's single brought home another run, pushing the lead to 8–2. McPherson managed one run in their half, making it 8–2.

In the fifth, Brody Ayers doubled and scored on Dirkx's RBI knock, adding another run for Northwestern to lead 9–2. The defense maintained control, preventing McPherson from scoring.

Northwestern expanded their lead in the sixth inning, with Wede's triple setting the stage for a series of walks and wild pitches that resulted in four runs. The Bulldogs responded with a four-run rally, but the Raiders still led 13–6 after the sixth.

The seventh inning was decisive as the Red Raiders tallied six more runs. Guidry's three-run homer capped off the inning, securing a commanding 19–6 advantage. The defense then closed the game, preventing any further scoring by the opposition, ending the game in seven innings.

  • Grant Guidry matched the single-game program record for RBIs, driving in seven runs.
  • Guidry was 4-for-5 with two homers, also scoring three runs on the day.
  • Devin Dirkx hit 3-for-4, driving in five runs and scoring twice.

  • Nikolai Wede tripled, walked three times, and scored three times.

How It Happened
Northwestern fell to McPherson in an 8-5 contest in game two. The Red Raider offense was highlighted by two home runs, but McPherson's five-run fifth inning proved decisive.

Northwestern fell behind early as McPherson's Vazquez hit a two-run homer in the first inning, giving the home team a 2-0 lead. The Red Raiders responded in the third inning with Bryce Click drawing a walk and Devin Dirkx singling up the middle. TJ Silliman, running for Dirkx, advanced along with Click, who scored on Tyler Schroeder's single to left field, tying the game 2-2 after the third inning.

In the fifth inning, Grant Guidry and Schroeder hit back-to-back home runs to propel the Raiders ahead, 4-2. However, the Bulldogs countered with a five-run fifth inning, fueled by another two-run homer from Vazquez, to take a 7-4 lead.

The Raiders managed to add another run in the seventh inning as Zain Stark scored on a passed ball, reducing the deficit to 8-5. Despite the effort, McPherson's early and consistent scoring secured their 8-5 victory.
