Red Raiders Defeat Mount Marty to Reach GPAC Finals

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – Northwestern advanced to the GPAC Championship for the first time since 2021 with a 78-71 victory over Mount Marty at the Bultman Center on Saturday. The Red Raiders kicked off the game with a solid performance, building a 14-point lead late in the first half, which set the stage for their win.

Northwestern dominated early, racking up 18 points in the paint. Brennan Reid was on fire with a pair of treys, keeping the Raiders' momentum alive. A timeout at 4:32 ignited a scoring spree, highlighted by a fast-break dunk from Jesse Van Kalsbeek and a triple from Manny Hammonds. With 1:40 remaining in the first half, the Red Raiders pushed their lead to 14 points, thanks to a robust defensive stand that stifled the Lancers. Jalen Langsy banked in a half-court shot at the buzzer, sending Northwestern into halftime with a 39-28 advantage.

In the second half, the Raiders continued to hold their ground, bolstered by standout plays from Van Kalsbeek and Langsy. Van Kalsbeek's early layup and a key defensive rebound set the pace, while Langsy's series of made buckets kept the pressure mounting on the Lancers. Northwestern stretched their lead to 12 points at 18:23, showcasing dominance in the paint with 24 points throughout the half.

As the clock ticked down, Northwestern's defense shone, with Hammonds recording a block and Van Kalsbeek grabbing multiple rebounds to hamper Mount Marty's scoring chances. The Lancers fought back with several shots from downtown but couldn't close the gap. Langsy's clutch free throws in the final seconds sealed the deal, with the Raiders emerging victorious, 78-71.
