Raiders Fall in Regular Season Finale

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – Northwestern fell to Dakota Wesleyan, 81-65, on Senior Day at the Bultman Center.

Northwestern opened the first quarter facing an early challenge as Dakota Wesleyan quickly established a lead. The Raiders responded through Emily TerWee, who contributed with a pair of free throws to get on the board. The Raiders managed to narrow the gap with contributions from Ashtyn Wobig, who drained a three-pointer and added a layup.

The Red Raiders took the lead briefly after a layup and a free throw by Jenna Kluxdal, assisted by Aubrey Schwieso. However, the Tigers regained momentum towards the end of the quarter, closing with a 6-0 run in the final minutes. As the period concluded, the Raiders trailed 24-18.

Northwestern initiated the second quarter by quickly erasing DWU's early eight-point lead with a series of successful plays in the paint. TerWee and Allison Piercy contributed key layups, while Kylie Foss and Wobig provided crucial assists, closing the gap to a tie.

The Red Raiders took a brief lead at 5:48 with Maddie Pottebaum's layup and subsequent free throw, but the Tigers responded, regaining control. Despite the Raiders' strong defensive efforts, including six rebounds from Wobig, the quarter ended with DWU holding a narrow lead at 38-33.

Northwestern opened the third quarter with defensive intensity, creating turnovers that led to a triple by Ellie Karolevitz at 6:30, narrowing the gap to 45–36. Kluxdal contributed with a layup and a three, keeping them within striking distance. The quarter saw the Tigers maintaining offensive pressure, extending their lead with consistent scoring inside the paint.

Despite the Red Raiders' efforts, including a late layup from Margo Schuiteman, the Tigers capitalized on second-chance opportunities and free throws to sustain their advantage, closing the third with Dakota Wesleyan leading 60-47.

The Raiders opened the fourth quarter with a strong offensive push, highlighted by Wobig's three-pointer at 5:47 and Pottebaum's jumper at 8:37, cutting into DWU's lead. Northwestern's defense contributed with two steals, including one by Pottebaum, creating opportunities to close the gap further.

Despite the Raiders' efforts, including Piercy's deep three at 9:15, the Tigers maintained their momentum with a balanced attack, scoring in the paint and from beyond the arc. DWU's Avery Broughton played a key role with multiple assists and rebounds, helping to sustain their lead and pick up an 81-65 win.
