The Raiders Come Up Short in Two Matches on Saturday

NORTHFIELD, Minn. — Northwestern fell to Wartburg and St. Olaf 5-2 on Saturday.

VS WARTBURG

Wartburg secured the doubles point with victories on all three courts. The No. 3 doubles team of Brooke Bloom and Lily Schreckengast set the tone with a 7-5 win over Bryn Higginbotham and Alloree Else. Tori Johnson and Bloom followed at No. 2 doubles, defeating Matilde Di Martino and Madalyn Kolb 6-4. The No. 1 doubles pair of Reese Williams and Morgan Kathman clinched the point with a 6-2 victory over Hannah Beckloff and Pietra Ferreira.

In singles action, the Knights extended their lead with wins on courts three, four, five, and six. Bloom captured a straight-set win at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-2 against Beckloff, while Schreckengast defeated Else 6-2, 7-5 at No. 4 singles. At No. 5 singles, Johnson prevailed over Kolb, 6-2, 6-4.

The Raiders fought back with two singles wins. Di Martino secured a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Williams at No. 1 singles. Ferreira added another point for the Raiders by overcoming Kathman 7-5, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. Despite these efforts, the Knights completed their overall victory with Riley McClellan's 6-0, 6-1 triumph over Higginbotham at No. 6 singles.

VS ST. OLAF

St. Olaf secured the doubles point with victories at No. 1 doubles and No. 3 doubles. Alexandra Berns and Emma Clift took a 6-1 win over Hannah Beckloff and Pietra Ferreira, while Haley Swanson and Lidia Bach defeated Bryn Higginbotham and Alloree Else 6-4. The Raiders claimed a win at No. 2 doubles, as Matilde Di Martino and Madalyn Kolb edged Elliana Loesch and Dana Keesler 7-6.

In singles, Northwestern's Pietra Ferreira earned a straight-set victory at No. 2 singles, defeating Emma Clift 6-3, 6-2. Higginbotham added another point for the Raiders with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Lidia Bach on court six. However, the Oles responded with wins in the remaining singles matches. Berns defeated Matilde Di Martino 2-6, 7-5, 10-4 on court one, and Keesler secured a 6-2, 6-2 victory against Beckloff at No. 3 singles.
