Raiders Earn a Point in Draw with Morningside

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Ben Schoenherr scored in the first half, but a late own goal put the Raiders at a draw with Morningside on Wednesday night.

The Red Raiders generated the first chances of the half, with Rasmus Morrison shooting high in the fourth minute and Ben Schoenherr forcing a save from Josue Carrasco-Morales at 9' before Juan Miranda took a corner kick in the next minute. The pressure produced the opening goal at 17:22, when Schoenherr scored off assists from Morrison and Gonzalo Domingo to put the Raiders ahead 1-0. The Mustangs answered with shots on goal by Javier Ruchelli at 18' and Guilherme Mota at 32', but Edoardo Alessandrini saved both as the Raiders finished the half with the only goal of the segment.

The Mustangs created the first chances of the second half, but Alessandrini saved Javier Ruchelli's shot at 47' before Mota missed wide, and Northwestern later had a shot on goal by Morrison at 56'. Morningside pressed again through the middle of the half, while Alessandrini made saves at 61' and 71' and the Raiders also put Jovany Kabongo's attempt on frame. The home side continued to push late during a stretch that also included a Mustangs corner and multiple off-target attempts. Morningside tied the match at 1-1 on an own goal at 87', and neither team scored again as the match finished level.

Match Notes: Up Next: Northwestern will continue its road stretch on Saturday, traveling to Hastings for a 3:00 p.m. kickoff.
