HASTINGS, Neb. — Northwestern battled Hastings to a 2-2 draw on Saturday, with Daniel Lindahl scoring in the second half to pull the Red Raiders even before the Broncos had a potential game-winner waved off for offside in the final seconds.
Northwestern got off to a strong start, and Diego Quintero put the Raiders in front at 16:33 with the assist from Piet Hennings. Hastings responded with pressure of its own, tying the match at 32:58 on a goal from Johnny Pedroza. The Broncos struck again late in the half, with Arnau Jardi scoring at 40:55 to send Northwestern into the break trailing 2-1.
The Raiders pushed for an equalizer throughout the second half, creating chances while goalkeeper Edoardo Alessandrini made several important saves to keep Northwestern within reach. The persistence paid off at 77:12 when Daniel Lindahl tied it up 2-2 off the assist from Jovany Kabongo.
Both teams looked for the match winner in the closing minutes. Northwestern put together a stretch of three consecutive corner kicks and forced a save on a Hennings attempt, while Alessandrini came up with key stops to keep the Broncos at bay. Hastings nearly snatched the win in dramatic fashion, finding the net with just four seconds remaining, but the goal was ruled offside, and the match finished in a 2-2 draw.
