Raiders Explode for 68 Points in Road Win

FOREST CITY, Iowa – Northwestern scored its most points of the season in a 68-10 win at Waldorf on Saturday.

"We came out and executed very well offensively," head coach Matt McCarty said. "It was great to see us click in the first half and then see Luke Anderson run the offense efficiently in the second half. A lot of players made some big plays and contributed to the big win today."

The Raiders scored touchdowns on each of their first two full possessions and added a late takeaway to finish the first quarter in front 14-3. Colby Duncan moved the opening drive with completions to Austyn Gerard, Carson Ness and Solomon Tea, then capped the 75-yard series with a 13-yard touchdown scamper at 10:14. The Warriors answered by reaching the Raiders six-yard line, but Ayden Klein broke up a third-down pass and the home team settled for Adrian Ros' 24-yard field goal. Northwestern responded with an eight-play, 54-yard drive that included Solomon Tea's 8-yard run on 3rd and 2, Duncan's 11-yard run and a 10-yard touchdown pass to Trever Beach at 3:28. After the Warriors moved to the Raiders 25 in the closing minute, Isaac Wenthe intercepted Chris Walter inside the 10, and Tea's 10-yard run carried the Raiders into the first-quarter break with the 14-3 lead.

A 33-point in the second quarter pushed Northwestern's halftime advantage to 47-10, with Duncan accounting for four touchdowns and the defense and special teams repeatedly creating opportunities. The quarter opened with Duncan converting 3rd and short with a six-yard run before hitting Gerard for a 69-yard touchdown at 12:58. Braylen Crawford intercepted the Warriors on the next series and returned it 24 yards to the six to set up a short touchdown pass to Ness. Crawford recovered another Warriors turnover at the 27 on the following drive, and the Raiders turned the field position into another score when Duncan found Josiah Heinz for 15 yards and then Ness for a three-yard touchdown at 8:48. The Raiders added a special teams touchdown when Jaelin Hines blocked a punt and returned it 13 yards at 6:49, and after the Warriors put together their lone scoring drive of the quarter, Duncan answered by leading a 65-yard march capped by his four-yard touchdown run with 1:47 left. The Raiders closed the half with a fourth-down stop at their 46, with Hayden Groos breaking up the pass, to preserve the 47-10 halftime margin.

Northwestern turned defensive stops and short fields into three touchdowns, outscoring the Warriors 21-0 in the third quarter. After Waldorf opened the half with a three-and-out, the Raiders went 37 yards in six plays, with Luke Anderson hitting Ahman Langton for 10 yards on 3rd and 3 before finding Langton again for a 10-yard touchdown at 11:04. The defense kept the Warriors from answering when Jaxson Hildebrand and Brock Fisher combined on an 11-yard sack to force a punt, and Crawford later forced a fumble that Barret Bleeker recovered at the Warriors 24. Anderson needed one play from there, connecting with Evan McCann for a 24-yard touchdown at 5:34, and the Raiders created another short field after a sack-backed Warriors possession, a 29-yard punt return and a personal foul put the ball at the 13. Anderson capped that three-play drive with a short pass to Blake Moser at 0:57 before Bennett's kick made it 68-10.

The Red Raiders closed the game with a scoreless fourth quarter defensively, highlighted by a late stand after the Warriors drove inside the 15-yard line. Earlier, the Raiders forced a punt on the Warriors' opening possession of the quarter, with Wesley Vick and Carter Schwab recording tackles for loss before the Warriors punted from near midfield. The Raiders then put together an eight-play, 44-yard drive from their own 20, using three Eli Carpenter runs, a Hunter Walters first-down carry and an Anderson completion to Damon Bye before turning it over on downs at the Warriors 36. The Warriors' final possession reached the red zone, but Joey Andres broke up a third-down pass and Dax Grissom made the tackle on a fourth-down completion inside the 10 to complete the 68-10 win.
